I’m Attorney Akua!
(AY-KWEE-AH)
I am a first-generation American. My presence in the United States is as a result of my parents’ ambition to ensure their children would have a better life and education than they had. Immigration law is not just my profession, but it’s personal. At just six years old, I helped my mother memorize the answers for her naturalization exam and thankfully she passed and became a citizen.
The most life-changing event occurred during my teens, when a close friend’s father was deported. We tried to look for attorneys and just anyone who would help, but no one stepped in. This experience opened my eyes to the harsh realities that many families encounter due to the lack of legal resources. It became clear that I wanted to be part of the solution.
As a result, I intentionally pursued professional roles within the field of immigration law. My experience includes working with undocumented and asylum-seeking high school students, assisting foreign nationals facing deportation, supporting survivors of domestic violence seeking permanent residency, and assisting large corporations with the pro on hiring foreign nationals from abroad.
